September 11 - Remembrance Day

Dear Garden City School Community,

Today, our students and staff across the district paused to reflect on the tragic events of September 11, 2001. As they do each year, our middle school students placed 2,977 American flags on the school grounds—one for each life lost that day. In our other schools, students engaged in age-appropriate lessons and conversations about the meaning of Remembrance Day.

These moments of reflection unite us as a community as we remember those who were lost 24 years ago, as well as the thousands of first responders who stepped forward on that day and in the days that followed. We hold in our hearts all those in our Garden City school community who were personally impacted by this tragedy, and we honor their strength, courage, and resilience.

We are deeply grateful to the many heroes in our own community, including the Garden City Police Department, our first responders, service members, and public servants, who continue to dedicate themselves each day to keeping us safe.
May this tribute serve as a reminder of the resilience, compassion, and unity that continue to define who we are as a community.

Sincerely,

Kusum
